Aug 26 – Four Seasons Hotel and Resort coming to Walt Disney World …
The sale of 298 acres of Walt Disney World land to Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts has now been finalised. The President of Walt Disney World Resort said “This is an important milestone for a project that will enable our company and our community to further tap into the luxury travel market Working together for the first time, Walt Disney World Resort and Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts will create a world-class family resort destination that offers the exceptional service and amenities and one-of-a-kind guest experiences that are the hallmark of both our brands.”
The resort will be located at the North East corner of Disney property and will feature 445 rooms as well as custom single and multi family accommodation and an 18 hole golf course. The design architects of the project have released an artist’s impression of how the project will look. Construction is planned to begin next year but will not open until 2012 although the whole project, start to finish, will take 8 to 10 years to complete.

Aug 26 – Toy Story Mania single rider news…
The very popular Toy Story Mania attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been changed slightly this weekend. The sign above the Single Rider line has been covered over and cast members were saying it has now been discontinued. The line has had a few problems over the last few months with it often being a longer wait for the single riders than in the standby line and many families rather than single riders using it.
This now means a large queuing area will be unused. It maybe that the Fast pass lines will eventually use it so guests don’t have to merge with the standby lines.
Aug 25 – Liberty Square Bridge update …
In Magic Kingdom the Liberty Square Bridge, that links Liberty Square to the central hub in front of the castle, has been closed since mid August for repairs. The bridge cannot be used by guests as it has been completely dismantled so the repairs needed must have been quite major.
The water around the bridge is now held back so construction workers have full access to the area. It is scheduled to be back in action around August 30th as this is the date the Spectromagic parade is back on the Disney World calendar (the parade has been cancelled while the bridge has been out of action).
Have a look at DoingFlorida TV for video of the repairs currently taking place.
Aug 24 – Tropical Storm Fay visits Magic Kingdom …
This week has seen some pretty horrendous weather over in Florida thanks to Tropical Storm Fay. The theme parks in the Orlando area tried to keep things as normal with many opening as usual or only altering operating times slightly. Disney certainly has the attitude that “the show must go on” as the Share a Dream Come True Parade at Magic Kingdom performed through the most horrific rain storm, have a look on DoingFlorida TV.
Aug 24 – Illuminations changes this weekend …
This weekend saw the Illuminations:Reflections of Earth fireworks show at Epcot change slightly. The centre piece of the 13 minute display is the Earth Globe floating into the middle of the lake, guests then watch the world’s first spherical video display (the globe uses 15,000 LED lights). It has been known for a while that the Earth Globe is in need of a refurbishment. It has, therefore, been taken out of the display and replaced by extra fireworks and fountain displays.
The whole show is now a few minutes shorter but it is not really noticeable that such a large part of the show has changed. It is hoped the globe will return later next month although no definite date has been announced.
Have a look at DoingFlorida TV where you can see clips of the show with and without the globe but also video of the globe moving through the bridge at the world showcase ready for the evening show.
Aug 23 – No Surfpark at Festival Bay Mall …
Four years ago it was announced that Festival Bay Mall, International Drive, would be home to Ron Jon Surfpark. It was planned to feature an artificial lagoon that would produce six waves every minute providing great surfing facilities as well as a great tourist attraction. It has now been announced that Ron Jon Surf Shop has pulled its name from the idea and the developers need more money if it is to continue. Festival Bay Mall, however, have said they will be looking for alternative concepts for the site. It sounds like the Surfpark will not now be opening after all.
DoingFlorida TV has an artists impression of how the site might have looked.
Aug 23 – New front of line passes coming to Seaworld …
From today Seaworld is testing a new “Quick Queue” system that will allow guests front of the line access at the theme parks most popular attractions and shows. Guests will have the option to buy the “Quick Queue” tickets at the theme park entrance or guest services, they cost $29.95 (plus tax) per person but will only be available until the 1st September.
There are only a limited number available, guests can use the pass only once per attraction but can use it a second time on their favourite one. The pass will also allow free entry to Sky Tower, Xtreme Zone or the Paddle Boats.
Here’s a link to the official notification on the Seaworld website.
Aug 22 – New interactive attraction coming to Epcot …
The long awaited “Disney’s Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure” has officially been announced as premiering at Epcot late 2008. This new interactive adventure will be played all around Epcot. Here is the official announcement from Disney:
”Using the latest technology, Disney’s Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure invites guests of all ages to become secret agents, teaming up with members of Team Possible to save the world from various comical villains and their mad inventions.
As guests embark on this international adventure, they will receive an official “Kimmunicator,” at kiosks throughout Epcot. The interactive, handheld device is designed to help them maneuver through the mission. Using state-of-the-art technology, the interactive device connects guests with a variety of Kim Possible characters who provide clues to stop villains from taking over the world. The highly interactive devices also allow guests to control top-secret equipment hidden inside the World Showcase pavilions, creating an ultra-interactive adventure jam-packed with mystery and excitement.
Guests can play Disney’s Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure in seven of the World Showcase pavilions: Mexico, Norway, China, Germany, Japan, France and United Kingdom. Each pavilion features a unique mission including distinctive visual events and a different super villain from the animated series.”
Have a look at DoingFlorida TV to see the logo for the new attraction.
Aug 22 – Tropical Storm Fay starts to move away …
The last few days have been quite unpleasant over in Florida, thanks to tropical storm Fay, although the main tourist areas around Orlando had a “business as usual” attitude. The storm is slowly moving away now leaving rain as the major problem.
The theme parks around Orlando changed schedules only slightly. On Wednesday Epcot’s Illuminations went on as usual but without the fireworks, Thursday saw Epcot’s Illuminations and Magic Kingdom’s Wishes fireworks cancelled. Also on Thursday Aquatica and Typhoon Lagoon were closed although Blizzard Beach remained open. One attraction that benefited from the storm was Florida Mall with many people visiting to escape the rain. Officials said the mall was as busy as the Christmas period.
Here’s a link to DoingFlorida TV where there is video of how the Disney parks looked in the wind and rain.
Allears.net has some photographs from around the parks showing the preperations Disney made for the strom as it approached, here's the link.
Aug 21 – T-Rex restaurant possible opening date …
There are rumours that the T-Rex restaurant will be opening on October 14th, here are a few details of what guests can expect:
“Guests will be greeted with life-size animatronic dinosaurs that live among cascading waterfalls, bubbling geysers, a fossil dig site and much more. There will be a meteorite shower every 20 minutes and an aqua bar complete with a 6,000-gallon shark tank and a large octopus with mechanical tentacles. A full-size skeleton replica of Argentinosaurus, one of the largest of the dinosaurs and copied from a museum specimen about 125 feet in length, looms over the entrance, joined by a Tyrannosaurus rex skeleton.” As of today Disney Dining does not yet have the official opening date confirmed and are not taking reservations. The 14th of October may well be a tentative date for opening.
The company, Schussler Creative, came up with the ideas for this restaurant and the Yak and Yeti restaurant at Animal Kingdom. Here’s a link to DoingFlorida TV for a look at the ideas behind both restaurants and at the T-Rex restaurant in Kansas.
Aug 21 – Tropical Storm Fay update …
Forecasters are predicting the storm will head back over Florida later today but it is not expected to reach hurricane force. The storm is expected to head North of Orlando so the theme parks shouldn’t be affected.
The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex will remain closed today though, partly due to the weather but also for operational reasons. Tuesday and Wednesday have been quiet days at the main theme parks in Orlando, a good time to go to avoid the queues! All remained open as usual although Seaworld did close at a few hours early.
Main Airports have remained open although a local airport had to delay flights for a while while walking catfish, tortoises, a snake and an alligator were removed from the runway. Click here to see up to date video about the storm.
Aug 20 – Shamu watches the Olympic swimming …
The American swimmer Michael Phelps recently collected 8 gold medals at the Beijing Olympics. It seems Shamu at Seaworld is a big fan and watched the event on the big screen at Shamu Stadium. He couldn’t help himself and just had to join in!
See DoingFlorida TV where you can watch Shamu celebrate.
Aug 20 – Florida prepares for the storm …
It looks like Tropical Storm Fay hasn’t quite finished with Florida yet! The storm is now expected to strengthen to hurricane force over the Atlantic before heading back to North Florida sometime Wednesday. On Tuesday forecasters were surprised by Fay when the storm actually intensified, with winds measuring 60-65mph, as it moved over land through Central Florida.
Worst effected was Brevard County where a tornado touched down injuring two people and damaging many homes. The main concern is still the amount of rain that will fall on already waterlogged areas. The storm is likely to remain in the area for most of this week.
See DoingFlorida TV for the latest video.

Aug 19 – Liberty Square Bridge closed to guests and parade …
Here are a few updates from around Disney World. There are now signs posted around Magic Kingdom showing the route the parade will take while Liberty Square Bridge is being repaired. Main Street is particularly difficult to manoeuvre down while the parade is performing and anyone trying to leave the area before the parade comes back down Main Street may find themselves in a jam. The amount of construction taking place there is quite major with lots of scaffolding and tarpaulin erected. The bridge is actually closed off to guests as well as the parade. The work has meant much of the water around the area has had to be drained away which has revealed just how much change guests through into the water….. it looks like plenty of people have been making wishes around there! The first signs of the Christmas celebrations have arrived with some of the Christmas lights already appearing on the castle turrets.
Over in Epcot the new attraction “Storm Struck” has opened in Innoventions. It’s an interactive game where guests try and decide how to build a house that can better withstand a hurricane force storm, interesting timing with Fay about to arrive!
WDWnewstoday website has a great photo update showing the bridge and Epcots new attraction, here’s a link to have a look.
Aug 19 – Orlando prepares for the storm …
It is predicted Tropical Storm Fay will arrive east of Orlando late Tuesday night or early Wednesday morning. It is hoped the winds may die down to just 35-45mph by that point although the effects of the storm may be felt in the area for a while.
The Tornado watch area has now been extended to include Brevard, Osceola and Polk Counties although this could be extended further by Wednesday. Forecasters are not now expecting the storm to become a hurricane as it has not shown much increase in strength but the rain is still a threat, 5-10 inches are expected to fall. Flights are not yet affected although flights will not depart Orlando airports if there is torrential rain and thunderstorms.
Some theme parks are making prepartions for the storm. Disney has issued the following details for revised opening hours:
The Walt Disney World® Resort continues to monitor the progress of Tropical Storm Fay. Recent forecasts indicate that there likely will be rain and wind conditions that may affect operations as early as Tuesday afternoon, Aug. 19, 2008. At this time, the Walt Disney World Resort will be open and operating as usual. Additionally, to ensure our Guests have opportunities to enjoy our Parks and Downtown Disney® Area offerings, we will open early as follows:
•All four Theme Parks will open at 8:00 a.m. on Aug. 19
•DisneyQuest® Indoor Interactive Theme Park will open at 9:00 a.m. on Aug. 19
•AMC Theatres will open at 10:00 a.m. on Aug. 19
Universal and Seaworld have stated hours will remain unchanged, although this of course may change. Some closures have been announced for Tuesday 19th Aug: Busch Gardens (Tampa), Cypress Gardens (Lake Wales), Holy Land Experience (Orlando), and Weekie Wachee (Spring Hill).
Here’s a link to DoingFlorida TV for video updates.
Aug 18 – Four For a Dollar to perform no more …
It has now been officially confirmed that the popular acapella quartet “Four For a Dollar” will no longer be the pre-show for the Beauty and the Beast show, Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Rumours have been circulating for a few days but have now been officially confirmed by the group. The statement on their website says:
“Just so you all know, Four For a Dollar ceases to exist after Sep 20, the company's decision. Come see us before it's too late. And if it matters to you, not that it will change anything, post any frustration you may feel regarding this here, on our website, and Disney's site.”
The impression given is that this is not a decision voluntarily made by the group! If you want a reminder of how they sound here’s a link to see them performing.
Aug 18 – Hurricane Fay targets Florida …
It’s the hurricane season and it seems Hurricane Fay is set to have an impact on Florida Monday & Tuesday this week. Latest news is the worst of the storm will arrive in the Orlando area around mid afternoon (local time) on Tuesday. It’s not known how strong the winds and rain will be until nearer the time but Disney World is certainly prepared. A Disney spokeswoman gave a statement saying “It’s business as usual at Walt Disney World Resort. We’re continuing to monitor the weather.”
Here’s a link to Doingflorida TV where there will be frequently updated video from news stations in the area.
UPDATE - Also on DoingFlorida TV, see how Disney World dealt with Hurricane Charley back in 2004.
Aug 17 – Actor spotted at Universal Studios …
Actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and family visited Universal studios this week to celebrate his daughter’s birthday. They all tried out The Simpsons ride and had a few photos taken with the stars of the attraction. The Simpsons Ride was recently named Theme Park Insiders Best New Theme Park attraction for 2008 and has just celebrated its 1 millionth rider.
Dwayne Johnson last visited to the studios back in January when he officially opened “Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Ride…Starring You!” Click here to go to DoingFlorida TV to see the news story about his latest trip and a look back at his January visit.

Aug 15 – Buyer for Seaworld? …
It is being reported that PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) has sent a letter to the owners of InBev, the company who recently bought Anheuser-Busch, offering on behalf of a donor, to buy one or more Seaworld parks. If the offer is accepted the donor is planning to rehabilitate the animals in the parks and release them.
The park wouldn’t be completely without marine mammals, visitors would be able to watch virtual marine mammal displays. A director of PETA says "This could be the end of the injustice at SeaWorld, where orcas and other dolphins are imprisoned in tiny tanks and forced to do silly tricks," The reported 5,800,000 visitors to the park last year may not agree with this statement or sentiment.
Click here to see Dolphins at Seaworld interacting voluntarily with a young visitor.
Aug 14 – T-Rex arrives at Downtown Disney …
The T-Rex restaurant, Downtown Disney, has been under construction for quite a while now. The exterior of the building changes daily with new rock features being added and foliage painted. (Click here to see photographs of the construction work).
This week saw the arrival of one of the main features. A two-story tall dinosaur has been delivered ready to be installed inside the building. The official name of the restaurant is “T-Rex: a Prehistoric Family Adventure” and is due to open mid October. Here’s a link to see the arrival of the T-Rex.
Aug 13 – Wizarding World of Harry Potter update …
More construction and demolition is taking place at Islands of Adventure ready for the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter, due to open 2010. Posted on all the construction walls are Hogwarts Shields but now there are also signs from the Ministry of Magic declaring “Magic at work, Your patience is requested”.
The Enchanted Oak has been completely demolished and shrubbery, trees and rocks have also been removed to enable pathways in the area to be widened. Have a look at video on DoingFlorida TV showing the whole area including a view of construction from The Flying Unicorn attraction, before it was closed, and how the Dueling Dragons area is looking with all this construction happening near by.
Aug 12 – Last chance to have breakfast with The Simpsons …
Any visitors to Universal Orlando who are wanting to have breakfast with Homer or Marge better get there fast. The character breakfast, located at International Food & Film Festival, will only be available until the 16th August. After that date any guests wanting a character breakfast will have to head over to Islands of Adventure to see Spiderman. There are no current plans to replace the breakfast with another event.
Nothing has yet appeared on the official web site to update guests so anyone who has already booked a breakfast may have a surprise when they turn up at the park. Many put the poor attendance at the Simpson’s breakfast down to the lack of publicity about the event.
Anyone with enquiries should contact Universal Orlando on (001) 407-224-4012.
Aug 11 – Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival details released …
Epcot’s annual International Food and Wine Festival will be celebrating with food and wine from around the world again this year. The festival will run from September 26th to November 9th, entry is included in the theme park ticket. There will be more that 25 different international marketplaces that will offer appetiser sized portions from stalls (each costing $2-$5). There will be new foods to try from different parts of the world from places such as Lyon, Marrakech, Shanghai, Bologna and Tokyo. ...and don't forget the winner gets to keep the Mickey from the pictures!
Click here for a look - today's post explains which pictures haven't been guessed yet. Good Luck...
Aug 10 – Universal Orlando park attendance down …
Compared to the same period last year, second quarters figures, Universal has seen its paid theme park attendance decrease by 5%. Officials are blaming the decrease on the Easter holidays - last year the figures for the Easter holiday fell in a different reporting period. The paid attendance for both Islands of Adventure and Universal Studios for April to June was 2.89 million (down on last years figure of 3.05 million) while net income for the same period is down at $20.2 million.
Interestingly figures also show that the average visitor to universal, compared to the same period last year, spent less money per person on food and beverages. The biggest fall though was in merchandise bought with 7% less income in this area.
Aug 09 – Animal Kingdom Lodge Villas …
The new Animal Kingdom Lodge villas will be available for reservations next month although they will not actually be open until May next year. The villas are a Disney Vacation Club Resort and offer a choice of one, two and three bedroom accommodation. They look extremely comfortable and are bound to be a very popular resort for guests.
Here’s a link to a video showing the new resort.
Aug 09 – Animal Kingdom and Epcot video …
Disney has released official videos to give a good overview of Animal Kingdom and Epcot. Animal Kingdom videos include a look at some of the animals guests could see on safari, aerial footage of the park, Jammin Jungle Parade and Everest. Click here to see them on DoingFlorida TV.
There is also a video giving a great overview of Epcot and the World Showcase. There’s a very interesting view of the park from the air as well as a look at Test Track, Soarin’ and other attractions, here’s a link to that video.
Aug 08 – Lots happening around the World Showcase …
There’s quite a lot of refurbishment and building work taking place at Epcot’s World Showcase at the moment. A new paved area has appeared near the Italy pavilion, possibly in preparation for the new Kim Possible Interactive attraction.
Over in China the Nine Dragon’s restaurant is closed until November 30th. Guests can instead buy food from a kiosk just along the World Showcase Promenade.
Morocco is also having some work carried out, the Gallery of Arts and History is closed until September 24th for refurbishment work. The building itself is closed and a construction wall is hiding part of the building on the outside.
Click here to have a look at what is happening behind the wall.
Aug 07 – Toy Story Mania ride video …
Toy Story Mania is proving very popular with guests. FastPass tickets are going quickly, often all distributed by mid afternoon, and there are long queues at the ride from early morning until the ride closes. Disney has released an official video to show any new riders what they can expect on the ride or a reminder for people who have tried it already.
Click here to have a look at the video.
The small kiosk just outside the ride has now stocked up on some new merchandise connected with the ride. You can now buy official Toy Story Mania Spring-Action-Shooters and amusing Toy Story T-shirts featuring Mr Potato Head.
Aug 07 – Parade changes at Magic Kingdom officially confirmed …
The Walt Disney World web site has now confirmed SpectroMagic will cease performing and the Disney Dreams Come True parade will change to two performances a day. These temporary changes are happening to enable repairs to be carried out to the Liberty Square Bridge which both parades currently use. SpectroMagic will make its last performance on August 14th but should be back again on August 30th. The Disney Dreams Come True Parade will be performing twice a day for the same period.
Aug 06 – Could there be another new ride coming to the Studios? …
It has been rumoured for a while that there may be a new Monsters Inc attraction, possibly a roller coaster, coming to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Disney have never confirmed this but the Director of the original Monsters Inc film was recently interviewed, by MTV, where he was asked about a possible sequel. His reply was quite interesting saying that much of his teams resources are currently being poured into the forthcoming Monster’s, Inc ride at Walt Disney Resorts! If this does happen the most obvious place for it would be at the new Pixar Place, possibly even by 2011 as part of Walt Disney World’s 40th Anniversary celebrations.
Aug 06 – DoingFlorida fan spotted …
Anyone reading the DoingFlorida Forum recently will have seen the great daily updates from member todtod while on holiday. It’s mentioned in one post that a DoingFlorida T-shirt was spotted while at Seaworld, the DoingFlorida shirts have only been available since June so someone had an order in pretty quickly. Todtod took a photograph of the person wearing the T-shirt and we’d love to know if it’s you.
Click here to check out the photograph and if it’s you please let us know!
Aug 05 –Universal price increase …
Universal Studios has now increased its theme park ticket prices from tomorrow in line with the Disney increases announced last weekend. Universal has justified the rise by saying it is to help fund the development of the new Wizarding World of Harry Potter and the new roller coaster Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. Both Disney and Universal Studios usually price match their basic ticket prices. The Universal parking fee is usually one dollar more than Disney so that too may increase to $13, although that hasn’t been officially announced.
Check the official Universal Studios Orlando web site for latest ticket prices.
Aug 05 – Contemporary Resort Update …
The construction work on the huge building next to the Contemporary Resort seems to be going well. The bridge connecting the building to the Contemporary Resorts main tower still isn’t connected yet but the windows on the building are now being installed. The building is set to be named Bay Lake Tower and is widely thought to be the new Disney Vacation Club property, although for some reason Disney still hasn’t confirmed this. The building may be due to open late 2009 although this also hasn’t been officially announced.
Here's a link to some recent photographs.
Aug 04 – Crocs are everywhere at Disney World! …
Any fans of the footwear Crocs will have a treat when next visiting Disney World. They are now selling even more varieties and colours and they are definitely the shoe to wear on holiday. The styles available are now more varied for both adults and children and are available at all the Disney theme parks. There are still the usual “Cayman” styles available but also “Athens” and kids “Mary Jane” styles. There are also even more ways to personalise you Crocs with more new Jibbitz on offer.
The official U.S. Crocs web site now has the Hannah Montana and High School Musical styles to buy. It’s surely only a matter of time before they too appear at the Disney theme parks.
Click here to see a few of the styles available (Main Street stores, Magic Kingdom).
Aug 03 – Caribbean beach resort update …
Disney has announced the retheming of some of its rooms. They will be based on the Pirates of the Caribbean ride and movies. The area to be themed will be rooms in the Trinidad South Village and should be ready sometime in 2009. The features included will be beds made to look like ships as well as curtains made to look like ships sails.
The Orlando Sentinel has an artist’s impression of how they will look. Here’s a link to the picture.
There is also news on the new pool area currently under construction. The pool area is now expected to open early, possibly by the end of August.
Aug 02 – Disney increasing theme park ticket prices ...
From tomorrow the price of a Disney one day, non hopper theme park ticket will increase by $4 while the multi day tickets with park hopper options will increase by roughly $5. The theme park tickets aren’t the only thing that will cost more at Disney, the car park fee will also increase Sunday from $11 to $12.

Aug 02 – Extra security at International Drive?
The business community around the International Drive area has put forward a plan to hire private law enforcement officers. The main job for the officers would be to patrol the area, control crime but mainly try to make tourists feel safer. It’s not known when the plan will actually be put into action but hopefully it could be by the end of the year.
Aug 01 – New artwork for Wizarding World of Harry Potter...
The official “Wizarding World of Harry Potter” web site has been updated with an artist’s impression of one of the restaurants. The Three Broomsticks restaurant will be situated in the Village of Hogsmede area. Looking at the picture there are lots of children holding wands so it seems they will be available to buy too. The web site also mentions the new area is due to open in 2010, previously it had been announced as opening 2009/2010 at Islands of Adventure.
Here’s a link to the web site to see the artists impression (the picture is in the section marked Gallery).

On this subject the Orlando Sentinel has published the orginal price of one day's admission to the Magic Kingdom in 1971 - any guesses? It was a tiny $3.50 - you couldn't get a kid's meal for that now!
July 30 – Does the Simpsons Ride need a refurb already?
It may have only been opened for three months but the Simpsons Ride is already showing some signs of wear and tear. Our spies have been in the park today and found a couple of areas which look as if they need some attention.
We can’t remember the old Back to the Future ride being affected like this, so what could be the problem? The decoration and theming is certainly excellent on this attraction – it may mean that Universal will need to take special care to keep things looking fresh. It does make you wonder whether Disney would let this happen – Toy Story Midway Mania is only two weeks younger than the Simpsons ride, but still seems to be in perfect condition.
Here are the pictures, see what you think.

The parade involves lots of dancing and acrobatics and interaction with the crowds by the cast members involved. There have been a few changes over the last few weeks but nothing major. There are still two stops along the parade route but only a couple of songs have been removed to make the parade slightly shorter and easier on the performers.

As yet Anheuser-Busch is considering the offer but no decision has yet been made.

Jun 19 – Could Disney be testing out preferred parking? …
We reported recently that Seaworld has been testing a new system of Valet parking at the theme parks car park. Well now it seems Disney are trying something similar at the Wide World of Sports complex. The rest of the car park area remains free of charge but Disney are currently monitoring guest feedback to see if the system should stay. It’s not known if a similar system is being considered for the rest of Disney World’s car parks.

There will be changes to fireworks displays at Disney and Universal Studios at the July 4th celebrations this year. At Universal Studios the only fireworks display will be shown as part of the Universal 360 show which and will not be visible from City Walk or Islands of Adventure. The reason given is that because of construction in the area the resort cannot be used to support the fireworks displays.
Meanwhile, Disney has announced that Fantasy in the Sky will not be performed at Magic Kingdom on July 4th, instead there will be a show called “Disney’s Celebrate America!-A Fourth of July Concert in the Sky.” There will still be special fireworks at Epcot, Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Downtown Disney.
Jun 17 – New Harry Potter film at Islands of Adventure? …
It’s rumoured that stars of the Harry Potter films are secretly filming a new versions of the films that will eventually be seen exclusively at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter (currently under construction at Islands of Adventure). Universal aren’t confirming or denying the story but would say the Wizarding World of Harry Potter would be an “authentic experience for our guests”. The idea of filming new short stories for attractions wouldn’t be a neew one. It has been done already at Shrek 4-D which is actually a new story showing what happens between Shrek and Shrek 2.
The new Wizarding World will feature many new rides, shops and restaurants but will not be open until next year. Part of the area should be open before the end of 2009 although it will probably not be fully operational until the summer of 2010.

The Flying Unicorn is one of the closest rides to the construction site and riders get a really good view of what’s going on at the other side of the construction walls.
